Change is imminent. Although it is an integral part of life, change is often difficult to accept; we often deny or reject change since it continually shifts our comfort zones and reminds us that our existence is fleeting and uncertain. Yet change is everywhere and occurring at all times, whether it happens in the tangible scale of daily life, in a microcosm at the cellular level, or at a grand proportion in the universe. One of the most intriguing aspects of change is the volatility between life and death, growth and degeneration. This idea of constant flux permeates my creative process and drives me to produce my artwork.

I find inspiration in many places, including the body and the natural world at large. I often use anatomy books and scientific photographs as source material. These may include surgical documentation, the cross sections of tissues, or infrared images of cellular matter or the cosmos. I am further intrigued by inherent repetitive patterns found in nature, such as the structure and placement of spores, the veining of leaves, and the fractured planes of crystals. I am equally amazed by textures and colors found in metallurgy and geology. At other times, I find I am most inspired by simple day-to-day observations of natural phenomena.

Ultimately, I strive to blur the lines between the tangible and the intangible, micro and macro, the internal and the external. My work invites the viewer to enter imaginary, constantly evolving spaces, in which change is transpiring and the future remains ambiguous. Life could be both forming and falling apart at a slow, steady pace, or exploding forth in a jarring, turbulent eruption. Processes and systems are always in motion. Transition is constant, and the present is ephemeral.
